Biography

 

Originally from Edinburgh, Daniel studied there with the late Nigel Murray before moving to Glasgow in 2004 to study with Olivier Lemoine and Justine Watts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

There, he gained a Postgraduate Diploma and BMus Honours in violin performance. Whilst studying he worked with and received masterclasses from various leading musicians including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Ilya Gringolts and members of the Lindsay, Brodsky, Chilingirian and Maggini Quartets.

Since then Daniel has toured in Mauritius, Norway, France, Italy and Germany, played live to 40 million listeners on BBC World Radio, played at The Commonwealth Games 2014, and performed with mainstream acts including Andrea Bocelli, Alfie Boe, Katherine Jenkins, Ben Folds, Dougie Maclean and Belle & Sebastian.

Theatre runs have included West Side Story,  Oliver, Sweeney Todd, Hello Dolly, My Fair Lady, Chicago, Les Miserables, Singing in the Rain, The Adams Family, Cabaret, The Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He has also worked on various other projects at the Tron Theatre, Kings Theatre and at the Edinburgh Festival and Scottish Film Festivals.

Professionally, Daniel has played with various groups including the Scottish Chamber Music Players, National Symphony Orchestra, Ambassador Theatre Group and London Concertante. He currently performs with the Sinopia Quartet and freelances regularly with Scottish Ballet* and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

* Daniel’s ballet experience includes tours of La Boheme, The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet, Cinderella, The Rite Of Spring and Hansel & Gretel.
